Ranchi, March 21st: The department of tourism has come up with an exclusive travel itinerary for the Chhau mahotsav in Seraikela-Kharsawan from April 3-15.

The 12-day event will witness renowned folk artists from across the country performing in Seraikela. "Chhau dance is already popular across the world and Unesco's recognition of the same is proof of it. Though dance troupes from Jharkhand have been performing across India and in other countries for years, our government aims to leverage the popularity of Chhau to attract tourists to the birthplace of the dance form," said tourism minister Amar Kumar Bauri.

The department has drawn up comprehensive plans to make the festival a success. It is already in talks with tour operators in metro cities and advertisements have been put up at Delhi and Ranchi airports. The department has also chalked out a travel itinerary, which include visit to waterfalls, lakes, and temples in Seraikela.

"The Seraikela-Kharsawan district administration will step up security measures. The department is also planning to introduce bus service for domestic tourists," said Suchitra Sinha, director, tourism department.

Chhau was included in Unesco's representative list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2010. The dance festival cum tourism fair will have on display Seraikela, Singua and Mayurbhanj version of the dance forms.
