SUBJECT : Ten tonnes of glass bottles collected

On June 5, city Corporation will organise a drive to clear waste accumulated on roadside

Thiruvananthapuram, May 31st: The city Corporation, as part of My City Beautiful City campaign, held a cleaning drive by collecting ten tonnes of glass bottles from five places in the city on Monday.

A special drive was conducted at Poojappura, Jagathy, Vanchiyoor, Putharikandom, and Chenthitta to collect empty bottles from residents and commercial establishments.

Chairman of standing committee for Health K. Sreekumar said the drive would continue in the coming days. Around 200 Corporation employees, including health inspectors, were involved in the cleaning exercise.

To Tamil Nadu

The collected bottles were handed over to the firm from Tamil Nadu which partners with the Corporation in clearing plastic items, he said.

On June 5, which is observed as World Environment Day, the civic body will organise a cleaning drive in the city to dispose of waste accumulated on the city roads.

The drive will be conducted with the active participation of volunteers from NGOs such as Kerala My Own Country, Harithagramam, Eco Preserve, Race Foundation, and Pelican Foundation, apart from Kerala Sasthra Sahithya Parishad, Student Police Cadets, National Service Scheme, police, and various residents associations.

Plastic materials will be segregated from the accumulated waste and biodegradable waste will be composted at the spot itself, he added.

WhatsApp number

The Corporation has launched a WhatsApp number 7034232323 for people to complain about dumping of waste.

The civic body has tied up with private telecom service provider Vodafone to provide a platform for the public to air grievances. The public can post pictures of waste dumped in public places. They can also call the landline number 0471-2320821 and 9496434517 to register complaints related to dumping of waste.
