Gangtok, November 1, 2017: Balipara Foundation today announced that the Eastern Himalayan NaturenomicsTM Forum 2017 would be held at Guwahati on November 2 and 3.

Balipara Foundation founder trustee Ranjit Barthakur, Scott Macmahan, Atlanta Botanical Garden, USA, Prof Koyu Furusawa, Japan center for a Sustainable Environment and Society (JACSES), Priyanka Yoshikawa, Miss World Japan, 2016, -, Khun Sivaporn Dardarananda, Elephant Reintroduction Foundation, Thailand, Nicholas Claxton, WoW Media UAE for Water addressed the press conference on the forum today.

Barthakur said, “for the first time we have the concept of rural futures and I think we will be able to export out to the world. We have people from many countries over the world. Nature is our asset; we are not concentrating on nature and instead ruining things by concentrating on industries.”

Tomorrow, the forum will see and opening address by Ranjit Barthakur to be followed by numerous conversations revolving around the theme of Community Conservation and Botany. The plenary sessions will explore the role of Botany and Communities in the Conservation of ecosystems through the lens of NaturenomicsTM , Innovation and Information and implementation plans for RuFu and the world-renowned panelists will talk on exploring reforms required in governance and policy that can have an impact on making conservation more participatory, hence, more effective.

Communities, Universities, Government, Non-Profits, Donors and Media Professionals from all around the world will engage in a dialogue to explore business models, policy reforms, technology, etc., to identify drivers and innovative ideas for community conservation.

A major highlight of the event will be the Balipara Foundation Awards to be conferred to societal entrepreneurs working to create social, economic and environmental impact in protecting the essential natural resources and restoring the beauty of the Eastern Himalayas. The award ceremony will be held on November 3 where the foundation will recognize 10 new ecological crusaders from the Eastern Himalayas. It will feature the Rabindranath Barthakur Memorial Lecture Series. President of Central Tibetan Administration Lobsang Sangay will deliver the memorial lecture this year.
