SUBJECT : Forty two runners trekked uphill to Goechela from Yuksom in West Sikkim today to participate in the 2nd edition of Kanchenjunga Marathon

Gangtok, November 4, 2017: Forty two runners trekked uphill to Goechela from Yuksom in West Sikkim today to participate in the 2nd edition of Kanchenjunga Marathon.

The 42-km marathon will start from Goechela (15,700 ft) on November 6.

After the registration by organizing committee at Yuksom, the athletes have been sent to Goechela for the marathon, informed the committee’s race director Kunzang Gyatso.

Organized by Sikkim Tourism Mountaineering Association and Kanchenjunga Marathon Committee and supported by State Tourism department, the high altitude marathon has participation of runners from different States of India and African nation Nigeria, which is known for producing some of the finest long distance runners.

The 42-km full marathon with a stipulated time of 8 hours will be flagged off from Goechela on November 6.

Likewise, a 21-km half marathon with stipulated time of 4 hours will start from Phedang on same day. The Half marathon will have 36 runners who will leave for Phedang on November 5.
