Namchi, November 3, 2017: The fifth semester students of botany and zoology departments of Namchi Government College have taken up the task of beautification of Central Park here.

The students undertook the upgradation of the Central Park in a creative and informative manner along with a similar drive in the college premises.

The students involved said they wanted to share their knowledge with the common people through the project, therefore they visited the park and carefully observed the plants for the purpose of identification. They prepared the name plates of these plants displaying the scientific and local name of the plants by money collected from among themselves. It took two months for the students to identify and collect the names of the plants. Later, they would also identify the fish species in the outdoor aquarium.

As an additional attraction at the Central Park, the students have displayed the State flower ‘Nobile Orchid’ and would take care of the flower for six months and later will hand over the responsibility to their juniors.

The students informed that zoology HOD Kamal Poudyal and botany HOD Rabin Sharma provided their support in the task.

On October 3, college Principal Bina Pradhan, faculty members and students placed the name plates of the plants. The principal applauded the task, creativity and effort of the students.

Namchi municipal executive officer Rajiv Rai said the initiative was a first step towards social responsibility. He urged the students to work positively for social development.
