SUBJECT : The 4th edition of the Eastern Himalayan Naturenomics Forum concluded on a very high note with Balipara Foundation Awards and 5th Rabindranath Barthakur Memorial Lecture in Guwahati

Gangtok, November 4, 2017: The 4th edition of the Eastern Himalayan Naturenomics Forum concluded on a very high note with Balipara Foundation Awards and 5th Rabindranath Barthakur Memorial Lecture in Guwahati on Friday.

Various citations were given at the ceremony which included, The Annual Balipara Foundation Awards, The Naturenomics Citation, The Green Journalist Citation, The Eastern Himalayan Conservation Citation and The Green Guru Citation.

The Naturenomics Award was conferred to Sagir Ahmed for his sustainable use of waste coconut shells in Assam followed by The Green Journalist Award which was presented to SIKKIM EXPRESS editor Amit Patro from Sikkim for reforming the role of publications to raise awareness on socio economic environment.

The Eastern Himalayan Conservation Award was presented to the Joint Forest Management Committee of Bhairabkunda for their afforestation work in the conflict and violence infested area of Udalguri.

Dr. Sourabh Deb of Tripura University who inspired a new generation of environmental stewards through education for sustainability and compassion for nature was given The Green guru Award.

The Balipara young naturalist Award was presented to Hiskiya Sangama who has leveraged technology and storytelling to raise awareness on wildlife conservation following which The Food for the Future Award was honoured to Krishna Bodo of Omita Gaon. The Bhutan Glory Eco Club was conferred The Nature Conservancy Award for shifting the midset of the youth of Nagaland from hunting to connecting nature through education. The Forest Guard Award presented to the personnel of Forest Departments had a total of five recipients – Khagen Bhuyan, Chakrapani Rai, Zakhuma Don, Jhampel Lhendup and Santiram Chetri.

The Special Recognition Award – Environment and Social Activist was presented to Mainu Marak.

Balipara Foundation Lifetime Service Award was honoured to former Manipur cabinet minister Haokholet Kipgen by Central Tibetan Administration president Lobsang Sangay.
