SUBJECT : Red Panda Winter Carnival, the annual tourism promotion event of Sikkim tourism would be held in the State from January 8 to 18, 2018

Gangtok, November 22, 2017: Red Panda Winter Carnival, the annual tourism promotion event of Sikkim tourism would be held in the State from January 8 to 18, next year.

The 10 day event will have various activities ranging from culture programmes consisting of dance, songs, flower shows, adventure sports, food stalls, handlooms and handicrafts stalls, organic products stalls and photo and art exhibition among others, an IPR release informs.

The first preparatory meeting for the celebration was held at Tourism department conference hall here today. Exchange of views and inputs on the various programmes and activities to be undertaken during the event was discussed at length during the meeting chaired by Tourism minister Ugen T Gyatso bhutia.

Tourism minister Bhutia deliberated on the importance of conducting such events and bringing in ways to further boost tourism ahead in State. “Tourism is the only future as through tourism Sikkim has managed to be visible in the national and international arena. Though the department has limited funds, it will do its best to conduct the vent with positive results,” said the minister. He also urged the hotel owners and stakeholders to participate in the event actively and added that the event will be celebrated in a grand and befitting manner.

Tourism secretary C. Zangpo highlighted the progress made by the State in the field of tourism and invited the departments and various stakeholders to offer inputs and suggestions to make the event a grand success.

He also mentioned that the Chief Minister has consented to attend the inaugural ceremony of the event.

Tourism special secretary C.P. Dhakal stated that the involvement and stakeholders was of outmost importance for the successful conduct of the carnival. He was also nominated as the chairman for the event. The next preparatory meeting is scheduled to take place on November 28 to finalize set of events and activities, the release adds.

During the meeting, it was decided that the carnival will kick off from the January 8, 2018 till January 18, 2018. The 10 days event will have various activities ranging from culture programmes consisting of dance, songs, flower shows, adventure sports, food stalls showcasing delectable cuisines, handlooms and handicrafts stalls, organic product stalls and photo and art exhibition, etc.
