Darjeeling, December 7, 2017: The GTA Tourism department is organizing a Teesta-Rangit Tourism Festival to restore confidence among tourists that Darjeeling hills are safe for visiting.

The festival starting from December 27 comes at a time when tourism footfalls in the hills are at all-time low due to the prolonged agitation and bandh from June till September end.

“We know that the tourist flow is less this time but we are going ahead with the festival and hope to get a good response. The GTA Tourism department is organizing the entire festival with support of the State government,” said GTA board of administrator chairman Binay Tamang.

Promotional activities like advertisements and broadcasting short documentary on the festival would be done in metros like Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai.

At Darjeeling town, the tourism fest is taking place at Chowrasta and Nightingale Park till December 28 and 29.

The tourism festival in Kalimpong falls on December 29 and 30 at Delo and Teesta. River rafting and angling are the main attractions for the kalimpong-leg of festival.

The festival concludes at Mirik on December 30 and 31 where boat ride and horse rides are planned along with beauty contest.

A cultural show on an open platform of the moving toy train would also be organized from Darjeeling to Ghoom and from Kurseong to Giddepahar.

The GTA has requested hoteliers and travel agents to give discount on hotel tariff and vehicle fare. The tea associations here have been requested to distribute free tea packets to the tourists during the festival. Discounts have also been requested for joy ride in the toy trains under Darjeeling Himalayan Railway.
