SUBJECT : The 6th Kanchanjunga Tourism Festival opened on Christmas day with great fanfare at Pelling school ground

Geyzing(Sikkim), December 26, 2017: The 6th Kanchanjunga Tourism Festival opened on Christmas day with great fanfare at Pelling school ground.

Organized with an objective of promoting West Sikkim as a tourist destination, the festival offers tourists and locals alike a chance to experience different adventure sports, relish number of cuisine with distinct tastes from the traditional food stalls set up by different communities and enjoy colourful cultural programmes.

The second day of the fest today was attended by Social Welfare minister Tulsi Devi Rai as the chief guest. She lauded the initiative taken by the organizing committee and said such initiative help to boost the tourism industry of Sikkim. She expressed that tourism festival helps to accelerate the development of tourism sector of the State as the festival allow a certain region to come to limelight.

Calling for proper management of tourism sector in the State, Rai stated that tourism industry needs proper management and ways to excel forward and it is in the hands of people to make the industry flourishing and beneficial.

“Tourism industry has been playing a vital role for improvement of the State’s economy: it has been instrumental in facilitating people to be the part of a sector to earn the livelihood in an easy way with dignity,” she said.

The opening day of the festival was attended by former minister D.N. Thakarpa as the chief guest.

The seven-day festival is being managed by the festival organizing committee in collaboration with Pelling Tourism Development Association
