SUBJECT :Tiger Trails wins global tourism award

Nagpur, November 11th: Tiger Trails Jungle Lodge, on the fringes of Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR), has won the silver award under 'best in wildlife conservation award category' in the World Responsible Tourism Awards 2015 held at World Travel Mart (WTM) on November 4 in London.

Amid intense debate among the judging panel, 37 organizations were chosen in 12 categories. Having gone through two stages of evaluation, Tiger Trails Jungle Lodge won the award from a long list of entries from 69 countries under the 'Best for wildlife conservation' category.

The award is given to tourism business or initiative that preserves and carefully manages habitat and wildlife species. The basic purpose of the award is to recognize, reward, inspire and challenge others to do more, and to use the awards to surprise and inspire tourists and the tourism industry with wonderful travel experiences that create better places to live in and to visit.

The award winners are truly outstanding in their fields. They act as a beacon to the global tourist industry, encourage best practice operations and sustainability in tourism enterprises. They increase public awareness of the value of responsible tourism as an agent of conservation and habitat renewal.

Tiger Trails, a bush camp created by Amrut and Aditya Dhanwatay, is one of the best examples of how tourism can actually help return barren lands to the forest. They have raised the bar in how we can combine saving nature with allowing people to see it, enjoy it and care for it.

Nineteen years ago, the Dhanwatays took over highly degraded land, and now run a popular lodge amid the jungle. They got the award on the basis of sustainable tourism practised by an accommodation provider, in terms of local support among host of other issues.

Simon Press, senior director of WTM, says, "The judging for this year's World Responsible Tourism Awards at WTM has been the most competitive for many years. I'm delighted with the quality and the diversity of the finalists."

WTM is the leading global event for the travel industry to meet professionals and conduct business deals.
