SUBJECT :More than 100 nature enthusiasts from across the State will join hands in a 100-km bicycle rally on Saturday, titled Wayanad Cyclothon-2018, to sensitise the public, especially the villagers and tribesmen on the forest fringes, to the significance of conserving forest and warding off forest fire. 

Wayanad (Kerala), February 16, 2018: More than 100 nature enthusiasts from across the State will join hands in a 100-km bicycle rally on Saturday, titled Wayanad Cyclothon-2018, to sensitize the public, especially the villagers and tribesmen on the forest fringes, to the significance of conserving forest and warding off forest fire.

The programme, organised jointly by the Forest Department, Wildlife Conservation Society India Programme and various environmental groups, envisages to create awareness among the public on the importance of preventing forest fire and ensuring their participation in the endeavour, N.T. Sajan, Warden, Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, said.

The rally would cover most villages on the fringes of the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary as well as the two territorial divisions such as North Wayanad and South Wayanad forest divisions, Mr. Sajan said.

District Collector S. Suhas will flag off the programme at the Tholpetty ecotourism centre at 7 a.m. on the day.

Receptions would be accorded to the rally at Mananthavady, Pulpally, and Sulthan Bathery. Pamphlets and brochures would be disbursed during the campaign. It would conclude at Muthanga Ecotourism centre at 6 p.m.
