SUBJECT :World Sparrow Day and International Day of Happiness was jointly organized by Vivid Kala Akademi (VKA), Sikkim and Indian Journalists Union (IJU), Sikkim unit at Bojoghari Senior Secondary School, Gangtok today. 

Gangtok, March 20, 2018: World Sparrow Day and International Day of Happiness was jointly organized by Vivid Kala Akademi (VKA), Sikkim and Indian Journalists Union (IJU), Sikkim unit at Bojoghari Senior Secondary School, Gangtok today.

The event was attended by musicians Manoj Rai and Remanti Rai , VKA president Kiran Rasaily, IJU vice president Amber Gurung, WWF landscape coordinator Lakhi Doma Theeng, Press Club of Sikkim
(PCS) president Joseph Lepcha, IJU members, school principal Asha Khatri, teacher and students.

Kiran Rasaily, citing example from the past, stated that sparrows are sweet birds that do not harm anyone and should be preserved. He also explained the significance of being happy. He informed that International Day of Happiness was started in 2010 by the 4th king of Bhutan. Since this year, every country is graded in terms of happiness. So far, Finland is in the top spot and India is very low in the grading chart, he added. Lhaki Theeng gave a detailed account on the significance of World Sparrow Day. She informed that the day was started by Mohammed Dilwakar, an Indian conversationalist from Nashik who also received the Heroes of Environment award by time for the same. She informed that the day is celebrated  all across the world to spread awareness  of the house sparrows and other common birds and threats to their population.

She stated that Government Departments, communities and individuals are working towards conversation of the environment and urged the students to keep their environment clean and help in conversation of the environment.

The event also had performances by Manoj Rai and a group song by the students.
