SUBJECT :A two-day Yuksam –Dzongri Eco-Toursim Festival commenced today at Yuksam. 

Yuksam, November 24, 2018: A two-day Yuksam –Dzongri Eco-Toursim Festival commenced today at Yuksam. Organised by Khangchendzonga National Park and Khangchendzonga Biosphere Reserve of Forest department to promote tourism in the rural area and to showcase the beauty of nature and rich cultural heritage of different communities, the festival has eco-adventure activities, display of indigenous food and handicraft, traditional sports and entertainments on the opening. YaNGTHANG MLA Chandra Maya Subba graced the inaugural event as the chief guest along with Yuksam-Tashiding MLA Sonam Dadul Bhutia. Addressing the event, MLA Chandra Maya Subba appreciated the arrangements made at festival venue. She said the eco-tourism festival is one of the events of Forest department of Sikkim government which encourages the people to preserve the natural beauty, cultural heritage and local traditions. She commended the department and its officials for the initiative. She also commended the west division of Khangchendzonga National Park and Khangchendzonga Biosphere Reserve for organizing the festival.

The MLA called upon the youth to take up tourism-related activities to become successful entrepreneurs rather tha being job seekers.

Organising committee president, Yuksam SDM Sonam Rinchen Lepcha informed that the festival was organized at Yuksam for the first time and appreciated the effort made by local stakeholders. He expressed that the main aim of the festival is to promote rural tourism.
