SUBJECT :The first ‘Uttarey Eco-Tourism Festival celebration of two days commenced at Uttarey, West Sikkim today. 

Gangtok, November 16, 2018: The first ‘Uttarey Eco-Tourism Festival celebration of two days commenced at Uttarey, West Sikkim today. Forest minister Tshering Wangdi Lepcha graced the occasion as the chief guest along with Urban Development minister –area MLA N.K. Subba, informs an IPR release from Geyzing.

Addressing the gathering, the Forest minister stressed that the importance of ‘ Afno Gaon, Aafai banau ‘ should be taken seriously and urged the people to take responsible steps towards the cleanliness of the forest. He explained how ‘Eco-Tourism’ and Organic Sikkim go hand in hand as they are the building blocks of Sikkim’s image. He also encouraged the public to develop in all areas of tourism as it is an ever growing and increasing aspect of Sikkim.

Minister Subba, in his address, welcomed all to the festival and urged public to participate in the two-day events and make use of the time to understand eco-tourism and reap the benefit from the experiences which could open more avenues for them in the near future in the araeas of ecotourism.

He urged the local youths for their active participation in favor of development in the field of tourism, and even informed about the schemes that they can use as assistance. He congratulated the people of Uttarey for carrying out the festival with great enthusiasm and capacitating the festival successfully. The celebration has various ethnical stalls and cultural programmes including the famous ‘ Singhik Dance’ from Okhrey , West Sikkim and marathon race for both men and women.
