Yuksam, November 15, 2018: To explore the tourism appeal of rural Sikkim and to showcase the local customs and traditions, the west division of Khangchendzonga National Park (KNP) and Khangchendzonga Biosphere reserve (KBR) of Forest department with support from Sikkim Biodiversity Conservation and Forest Management Project (SBFP) and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is organizing a two-day ecotourism festival at Yuksam in West Sikkim.

The two-day ecotourism festival is scheduled to take place on November 24 and 25.

The main objective of the fest is to promote the world famous Dzongri-Goechala trekking and also to showcase the traditions of local communities.

A final preparedness meeting for the festival was held at Yusam on Wednesday. The meeting was chaired by SDM Sonam Rinchen Lepcha and attended by ACF Joseph Lepcha, range officer Tenzing W. Bhutia, panchayates, official from various line department, local NGOs, tourism stakeholders, and forest officials.

The festival is such first organized in Yuksam. The committee has decided to celebrate the festival in a grand manner involving all the stakeholders, agencies, NGOs, clubs, and individuals working on promotion of eco-tourism under the Yuksam-Tashiding sub-division.

Various adventure acrivities like mountain bikinmg and rock climbing, marathon race, ethnic fashion show, traditional food competation , display of local handicraft, bird and butterfly watching and traditional games including many other actrivities to be  held during this two day festival. The festival will also have modern and ethnic cultural show and musical nights. A part from that, symposiums on development of eco-tourism in Sikkim and Khangchendzonga National Park will also be held.
