SUBJECT :A one-day adventure tourism festival was organized by Parakha village Tourism Development Society at Parakha, East Sikkim today. 

Pakyong (East Sikkim), February 27, 2019: A one-day adventure tourism festival was organized by Parakha village Tourism Development Society at Parakha, East Sikkim today. The festival had mountain biking, rock climbing and paragliding events followed by cultural programme and felicitations.

Area MLA and minister D.T.Lepcha, who was present as the chief guest, said he was delighted to see tourism flourishing in rural areas under Gnathang Machong constituency and assured to support the local stakeholders in the growth of tourism sector in the area.

“After we realized  the tourism potential of the areas we started working on it and now the tourism has started flourishing and the locals have started earning. The constituency has already become number one in homestay tourism in the State,” the minister said.

Parakha Village Tourism  Development Society president Kamal Gurung credited the MLA for the popularly the area has gained in homestay tourism.

Kunjang Gyatso Bhutia, president of Sikkim Amateur Mountaineering Association, said soon a national level rock climbing completion would be organized in the area to attract more tourists.

On the occasion, the organizing committee felicitated members of Sikkim Mountain Bike Association, Sikkim Amateur Mountaineering Association and Sikkim Paragliders Association.

The festival also had stalls put up by Self Help Groups of the areas.
