SUBJECT :Minister Kadakampally Surendran launches the refurbished website of Thenmala ecotourism in Thiruvananthapuram 

Thiruvananthapuram, March 4, 2019: “Kerala is the first state in the country to create basic infrastructure and amenities for disable at tourism centres, thereby setting a model for others,” said tourism minister Kadakampally Surendran on Saturday. He was speaking after unveiling the new set of initiatives of Thenmala Ecotourism Promotion Society (TEPS), including Braille brochure and a video brochure in sign language.

The 16-page Braille brochure was prepared by Government School for the Visually Impaired, Vazhuthacaud here. The video brochure, over 4-minutes long, was created with the help of Government VHSS for the Deaf, Jagathy here. These are first such attempts in the tourism sector in the country. “ So far over 100 tourism centres in the state have been equipped with disabled-friendly facilities,” Surendran said.

The minister will inaugurate disabled-friendly infrastructure facilities set up in over 100 tourism centres on Monday. “The facilities include ramps, wheelchairs and toilets. It took eight months to complete the project,” said tourism director P Bala KIran.

Surendran also launched the refurbished website of Thenmala ecotourism, the ‘ Buddha Mayuri Corner’ set up at Butterfly Safari at Thenmala that gives information on host and nectar plants regarding state’s butterfly ‘ Buddha Mayuri,’ a mobile app on android platform, and description boards about deer species to be put up at Deer Rehabilitation Centre, Ottakkal, Thenmala. He also unveiled the Thenmala holiday tour pavkage by handing over a copy of it to Bala Kiran.

The trail version of the navigation app with GPS navigation facility offer information for visitors coming from Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Sengottai. It also consists of brief description about attractive spots and natural resources on the way to Thenmala. The app is developed by Palakkad-based Mobiz Innovations and Research.
