SUBJECT :Udyam Samaagam, a two-day event organised by Sikkim State Council of Science and Technology in association with MSMS- Development Institute, Guwahati and Gangtok was inaugurated by Forest minister Karma Loday Bhutia at Sikkim Science Centre, Marchak near here today.

Gangtok, June 28, 2019: Udyam Samaagam, a two-day event organised by Sikkim State Council of Science and Technology in association with MSMS- Development Institute, Guwahati and Gangtok was inaugurated by Forest minister Karma Loday Bhutia at Sikkim Science Centre, Marchak near here today.

Addressing the inaugural function, minister Bhutia expressed that Sikkim is a small State with low population, especially in the remote areas. He urged the concerned departments to go to the remotest and vulnerable areas of the State with the motive to spread awareness and economic upliftment of the society. He also urged them to document the event through videos for awareness at a larger scale. He also urged the government departments to use the funds provided by the Central government for the betterment of the society.

Special guest Tourism additional chief secretary K. Jayakumar congratulated the organisers for conducting the event in Sikkim. He urged the youth to have passion and be more professional. He urged the school authorities to introduce science clubs in their schools.

The main aim of the event is to create an opportunity for MSME sector to develop as a potential vendor to the government, PSUs and large industries by display of requirements by PSUs, large organisations and products manufactured by MSMEs, sensitize about public procurement policy for MSEs Order 212 and Sikkim and NE States Procurement policy and bring stakeholders of expertise of heritage products from Sikkim and NE in one platform.

The major events for the two days will include industrial exhibition and national seminar.

The industrial exhibition will have around 60-70 stalls where MSMEs, PSUs, government agencies and banks will display their products and key personnel from the Centre and State departments and PSUs etc will discuss issues regarding purchase requirements and areas of concern pertaining to development of their enterprises. The national seminar will have experts from GeM, GST, digital advertising, e-marketing platforms who will deliver their views and detailed presentations on heritage industries, environmental norms, export promotion schemes, purchase procedures and schemes for the benefit of the sector.

General Sessions on licensing and clearance procedures, applicable standards, packaging, export development, credit facilities, experience sharing business and team interactions etc. will also be part of the event. There will be detailed discussions on Udyog Aadhar Registration (UAM) and GST. On-spot facilities will also be available, informed MSME director M. Sreenivasulu.

It was also informed the government will soon be drafting a policy for MSME and will be posted in the department’s website soon. It will be put in the State cabinet after two months. The department has also been taking steps to encourage MSME in Sikkim. The long standing requirement of having a facilitation council is also being notified to the State government, it was informed.
