SUBJECT :Tikjuk Sinolchu Samaj, a non-government organization, organized a cleanliness and plantation drive around Tikjuk, near Pelling Sunday to observe ‘A Day for mother Earth’. 

Geyzing (West Sikkim), July 8, 2019: Tikjuk Sinolchu Samaj, a non-government organization, organized a cleanliness and plantation drive around Tikjuk, near Pelling Sunday to observe ‘A Day for mother Earth’.

The family members from each household-members of the society participated in the programme organized by the society.

Drainage along the road, walls and footpaths connecting Tikjuk with other places were spruced up and the collected debris, litters and waste were taken away to landfill site.

The member of the society, with an objective of keeping Tikjuk beautiful and green, planted more than 150 varieties of trees, fruit bearing plants and flowering plants around Tikjuk. A monitoring committee was also formed to provide continuous care to be newly-planted trees for ensuring proper growth and development.

In the evening, the members of the society held a meeting to discuss the issues concerning Tikjuk. Exploration of tourism prospects at Tikjuk, beautification, proper maintenance of Tikjuk view point and increasing the forest wealth of the places were some of the subject tabled in the meeting. The member of the society asserted that collective effort would be put on all the issues related to development and welfare of Tikjuk.

Tshering Dorjee Bhutia, one of the executive members of the society, expressed that Sinolchu Samaj is working continuously in different area of the society with the slogan “ Aafno Gawn Aafai Banau” and the cleanliness drive and plantation of trees was the part of society’s initiative to promote clean and green environment. He added that Sinolchu Samaj in the future would explore tourism prospects through the tourism-based initiatives considering Tikjuk’s nearness to Pelling, a tourism hub in west Sikkim.

Another member of the society, Tshring Yankey Bhutia informed that Sinolchu Samaj has been working constantly to uplift the face of Tikjuk through various constructive and innovative initiatives. She shared that Sinolchu Samaj in the future will work in tandem with other NGOs of Sikkim to address the issues related to west Sikkim.
