SUBJECT :A day after Janmaasthami, authorities of Bengal Safari Park here celebrated this morning when Sheela, a Royal Bengal tigress gave birth to three cubs. 

*    Siliguri, August 12, 2020: A day after Janmaasthami, authorities of Bengal Safari Park here celebrated this morning when Sheela, a Royal Bengal tigress gave birth to three cubs. With the newly born three cubs, the park’s population of Royal Bengal tiger has reached seven.

*    Earlier in May 2018, Sheela had given birth to three cubs. When Chief Minister Mamatma Banerjee had visited the park she had named them IKa, Kika and Rika but unfortunately IKa died later.

*    Dharamdeo Rai, director of Bengal Safari, said, “ Sheela gave birth to three cubs on Wednesday early morning between 4:45 am to 7:20 am but the gender is yet to be ascertained as no one can go near the tigress at the moment.”

*    According to Rai, all three cubs and mother are in good health till now.

*    It is to be seen whether the Bengal Safari authority will announce their names or wait for thye Chief Minister to name them during her next visit to North Bengal.

*    Presently Sheela, her mate Viban, Rika, Kika and three cubs are staying together at the park. Viban was brought from Nandankanan Zooligical Park in Bhubaneswar a few years back.
