Namchi, November 9, 2020: A tourism stakeholders meet was held at Namchi on Sunday jointly by Hotel and Restaurant Association of Namchi, Sikkim Rural Tourism and Homestay Cooperative Society and Silk Route Rongli Gnathang Mainline Taxi Jeep Owner-cum-Drivers Welfare Association.

The meeting was attended by the tourism stakeholders from east, west and south districts of Sikkim along with stakeholders from neighbouring Kalimpong.

In his introductory speech, Hotel and Restaurant Association of Namchi P.K. Rai said the meeting was aimed to strengthen the tourism sector with participation of tourism stakeholders. The meeting today will also seek formation of a State-level committee and exchange of views for promotion of tourism within and outside the State, he said.

The meeting is held to create, support and build communication between all the tourism stakeholders and to constitute a State-level committee for tourism development in the district and State as a whole, said Rai.

Stakeholders attending the meeting placed their views and suggestions for tourism promotion at the meeting. Owners of homestays and village tourism entrepreneurs shared their thoughts on the present tourism sector scenario which is hugely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Sebastian Pradhan from Kalimpong Village Tourism and Silk Route Sikkim promoter Gopal Pradhan shared their experiences with the gathering on tourism field.

Addressing the gathering, SKM vice president Ganesh Rai, the chief guest for the meeting, urged the tourism stakeholders to support tourism in Namchi and adjoining places. He assured the stakeholders to place their grievances and problems before the State government for solution.

Felicitations were presented to 26 tourism stakeholders and village tourism entrepreneurs from other districts of Sikkim and Kalimpong during the programme.
