Floral Biodiversity of Sikkim |
Sikkim supports at least 4000 species of flowering plants. However, Rhododendron (36 Species/100 genera ) and Orchidaceae (more than 500 Species/100 genera in Sikkim, minimum 25 species threatened ),have attracted the most attention from naturalists, primarily because they produce attractive flowers in many colours and shapes. Sikkim supports 9 conifer species (rich by the standards of the HER) and 300 species of Pteridophytes (ferns and fern allies). Atleast 420 Medicinal plants species also occur in Sikkim.
